WELCOME TO

The Ubuntu Humanitarian Foundation

What is our Why ?

Teachers and administration work tirelessly in difficult conditions because they love the students, they love teaching and they want to GIVE of themselves now to help future generations.

Volunteers love serving because as much as they go to give, they quickly realize that as they go and serve, they grow in so many ways

OUR STORY

IMG_0729.jpeg

Ubuntu was born because volunteers wanted to do more. After building a classroom or dormitory, the volunteers were so invested that they wanted to provide desks, chairs, and cabinets for the teachers, as well as bedding for the students.

Eventually, a sponsorship program was conceived.  After interacting with the students, learning their stories, and developing relationships with them, many volunteers wanted to help provide long-term educational opportunities for primary and secondary school students.

This is the spirit of Ubuntu. Volunteers, after traveling halfway around the world, and working to build buildings or lead children’s programs saw the humanity of the children, the teachers, the community and decided to do more.

It was never our intention to have a sponsorship program, but we recognize that we make a life by what we GIVE. So, by sponsoring children we can impact two lives. The student who gets an education and the sponsor who is a better person because she lives the spirit of Ubuntu.

SERVE

Ubuntu supports the educational, social, spiritual, and cultural development of teens and young adults. They grow as they contribute to the well-being of others by providing humanitarian and disaster support to distressed communities throughout the world.

In short, they go, they serve, they grow.

One of my favorite bumper stickers says, “I’m spending my kid’s inheritance.”

The last time I saw it, a cute couple was driving a sporty bright red convertible. The message was loud and clear. Why wait until retirement to enjoy life?

GROW

We believe, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in service to others.” (Ghandi)

We have done the crazy and creative. We helped purchase a couple of cows.

That worked so well, we added chickens to the list. We do normal stuff, too, like help with the day-to-day operation of schools, provide furniture for classrooms, beds for dormitories and sponsor orphan children.

Almost anything goes to get your best life going! We want to you feel the giving glow and experience the giving GROW.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

WHY US
IMG_9340.jpg

Travelling to another country, living and working with strangers, being immersed in another culture, being almost constantly outside of your comfort zone is hard, but it is also what makes you grow.

I recall being in South America. One of our young volunteers ventured off and ate something she shouldn’t have, and she was paying the price. “I’m so sick. I have never been this sick in my entire life…This is the best trip ever; I can’t wait for next year.”

“This experience changed my life.”
